TFCU Supports El Paso with over $24,000 in Donations

Part of TFCU's mission is “to stimulate personal enrichment and community economic development”, which is why the credit union lives up to its promise and has donated over $24,000 to provide support to healthcare workers, service industry workers, local non-profit organizations, and local businesses. These donations help provide relief, resources, and economic support to the El Paso community during the COVID-19 crisis.

Donating Meals to UMC Heroes

Every day, healthcare workers across the globe selflessly give people the gift of health, healing, and second chances. In the wake of the COVID-19 global pandemic, our healthcare workers have taken extraordinary measures to provide their communities with these same gifts under unprecedented circumstances.

Over the past several months, many people and organizations have joined forces in providing relief and resources to our health heroes, in the hopes of spreading joy and hope throughout our communities. On Thursday, May 14th, TFCU donated 250 meals from Rulis' International Kitchen to ICU doctors, nurses, and staff at UMC hospital in El Paso, Texas.

TFCU continues to provide support to healthcare workers, students, educators, and other organizations providing relief and resources to the El Paso community.

Feed the Frontline, El Paso

As testing for COVID-19 increases across the country, we see the number of reported cases on the rise. With this rapid influx of people in need of medical care, our frontline healthcare workers are facing unprecedented obstacles. We know how important it is for the physical well-being and emotional resilience of our healthcare workers on the frontline.

To help provide some help during this time, TFCU has donated $5,000 to Feed the Frontline, El Paso; a clinician meal-support program, which raises money to support local restaurants while providing and delivering meals to healthcare workers across the city. This donation helped provide meals to 535 frontline healthcare workers at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Del Sol Medical Center, Las Palmas Medical Center, the El Paso Psychiatric Center, Proaction EMS, and the MD Medical Group Testing Site. The meals were provided by these 13 local restaurants: Brown Bag Deli, Wing It Bar and Grill, West Texas Chop House, Nour Mediterranean, House of Taste, Tratorria Bella Sera, Luigi's Homestyle, Sorrento's Italian, Crave, Urbano Sandwicheria, GreenWok, Rockstar Burger, and Ke Flauta.

The organization has raised $39,961 donated toward meals with a total of 2,744 meals delivered thus far and counting. With the help of your 100% tax-deductible donation, we can continue to directly impact local eateries and the well-being of our health heroes.

El Paso County Medical Society COVID-19 Masks and PPE Fund

Words can’t describe the gratitude we feel toward the brave first responders of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, outpatient physicians in our Sun City are experiencing a massive shortage in N95 respirator masks and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such, as gloves, goggles, face shields, and hazmat suits. This protective gear is essential for our health heroes to safely and effectively see, test, diagnose and treat patients. The El Paso Community Foundation will match donations dollar for dollar to the El Paso County Medical Society COVID-19 Masks and PPE Fund to get these supplies to our outpatient physicians and other healthcare providers in the El Paso County. TFCU has donated a total of $5,000 to help source and purchase this equipment for the El Paso Medical Heroes that are on the front lines during this pandemic.

Get Shift Done For El Paso

The California-based technology platform Shiftsmart and the El Paso Community Foundation have launched a program to hire displaced service industry workers. Through this program, displaced workers can pick up shifts at the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger local food bank by working shifts that pay up to $10 an hour. Since social distancing measures have taken place, the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger food bank has been experiencing a shortage of help, and is in need of volunteers and donations.  The goal is to provide 40 daily shifts. The program hopes to grow from there, depending on the availability of donations. TFCU donated a total of $5,000 which will result in 500 hours of work for local service industry workers that have lost their jobs during these pandemic.

TFCU invites you to join us in aiding these initiatives through donations and /or volunteer work. To donate to Get Shift Done, visit epcf.org/getshiftdone

The Jazz Exchange

With the support of a 4,000 donation from TFCU, The Jazz Exchange has launched a Virtual Jazz Sessions series, where bands made up of multigenerational musicians from the Southwest region including, El Paso, Juarez, and New Mexico, perform original songs on Facebook and YouTube Live. The performances provide economic support to local musicians that have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

Internal Initiatives

In addition, the credit union provides a free meal from the local restaurants, once a week, to the 190 essential employees still working at TFCU locations. Over the past 7 weeks, TFCU has ordered meals from Rulis’ International Kitchen, Fruit Sense, Gorditas Lerdo, On the Grill, and Desert Oak Barbecue, for a total of 1,330 meals thus far.

Supporting Our Senior Citizens

The credit union recognizes how difficult it is for individuals over the age of 65 to continue daily life during this pandemic. TFCU made it a priority to individually reach out to about 5,000 of its members over the age of 65 to provide assistance with their accounts over the phone and eliminate their need for exposure.

TFCU encourages the community to join in support of these and other local efforts to keep the El Paso Strong spirit alive during these trying times.
